GTDC Eyes Transformation in the Tourism Sector through Partnership  with the Government of Spain.

The Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited (GTDC) sets its sights on a new horizon, one marked by innovation, expansion, and international collaboration. This ambition came into sharper focus during a recent high-level meeting organized by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), which brought together key stakeholders to explore support opportunities from the Government of Spain.

Representing GTDC at the meeting was Prof. Kobby Mensah, CEO of GTDC and Mr Paul Sowah, the Company’s Finance Officer, who joined other industry players to discuss how Ghanaian businesses could benefit from Spain’s growing interest in the African market.

GTDC, already a major player in Ghana’s tourism sector, is looking to harness this partnership to fuel its digital transformation and other innovative efforts.

Among the projects in the pipeline are the development of some flagship projects including tourism-related software and mobile applications tools that will modernize how tourists interact with Ghana’s cultural and natural heritage. However, such innovation requires substantial investment, and the Spanish initiative offers a timely solution.

Under the proposed funding model, businesses must satisfy a few key conditions:

  • Form a partnership with a Spanish company in Ghana;
  • Clearly declare the amount being sought during the business registration process;
  • Secure 30% of the total project value, after which the Spanish government will provide the remaining 70%.

For GTDC, this could be a game-changer. With the right partners and funding, the company can accelerate its mission to position Ghana as a premier destination. More than just financial support, this initiative reflects Spain’s strategic effort to gain entry into the African market by empowering businesses and agencies like Ghana Tourism Development Company.
