HOTCATT ACTING DIRECTOR EXPLORES PARTNERSHIP WITH GTDC

The Acting Director of the Hotel Catering and Tourism Training Institute (HOTCATT), Mr. Eric Kofi Afornorpe, paid a courtesy visit to the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) to explore opportunities for collaboration.

During discussions, the CEO of GTDC shared key insights on revitalizing HOTCATT. He emphasized the need to update and restructure HOTCATT’s training modules to align with the evolving demands of the tourism industry. Additionally, he proposed introducing specialized courses, including tourism photography, to diversify training offerings.

The CEO also suggested a strategic partnership between HOTCATT and the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) to offer advanced Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Master of Arts (MA) programs in tourism and hospitality. This collaboration could extend to joint training initiatives for tourism and hospitality managers.

Another critical topic discussed was accreditation. Prof. Kobby Mensah committed to engaging the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GITEC) to secure accreditation for HOTCATT’s restructured programs. He also highlighted the growing demand for flight attendant training and advocated for its reintroduction as a priority area.

Furthermore, the conversation touched on the need for increased visibility for HOTCATT. Prof. Mensah recommended the adoption of brand journalism to promote the institute beyond Accra, ensuring accessibility for aspiring professionals across Ghana. Enhancing HOTCATT’s presence through strategic communication and outreach would attract more trainees and generate revenue.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the CEO of GTDC reaffirmed his commitment to supporting HOTCATT in its efforts to regain prominence and contribute meaningfully to the tourism and hospitality industry.
