The Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited (GTDC) continues to deepen its collaboration with digital creative and travel influencers to amplify the country’s tourism narrative. Following a strategic breakfast meeting held at Accra City Hotel, where travel influencers and content creators gathered to explore partnership opportunities, GTDC has taken a major step forward by engaging directly with one of Ghana’s leading travel content creators, Walter Aikins.
The initial breakfast meeting convened a vibrant group of digital storytellers, emphasizing the growing influence of content creators in the tourism ecosystem. GTDC’s Deputy CEO in Charge of Operations, Ms. Felicity Nelson, opened the session by underscoring the importance of influencer collaborations in boosting Ghana’s visibility across both traditional and digital platforms. A comprehensive presentation highlighted GTDC’s mandate and ongoing projects, with key tourism sites such as the Assin Manso Slave River Site and The Big Tree at Akyem Oda receiving special mention for their active promotion

A highlight of the session was the unveiling of “Accra by Night,” a new guided tour designed to showcase the city’s vibrant nightlife, along with the announcement of the upcoming Centre of the World Festival, a five-day cultural event celebrating Ghana’s unique geographic identity and rich heritage. Attendees engaged in an open forum discussing industry challenges and shared innovative ideas to enhance the tourism experience, including improved infrastructure and inclusive marketing strategies.
Building on this momentum, GTDC CEO Professor Kobby Mensah met with Walter Aikins, the prominent travel and tourism content creator behind the popular social media brand Location Ghana. The meeting focused on forging a strategic partnership aimed at promoting GTDC’s flagship projects and leveraging Walter’s digital storytelling expertise to reach wider audiences locally and internationally.
Prof. kobby Mensah highlighted two major initiatives during the discussion: the upcoming Tourism Investment Platform, which profiles underdeveloped but high-potential sites for investors, and the Ghana Tourism Marketplace, a digital hub designed to increase visibility and accessibility for tourism vendors nationwide. He emphasized the critical role content creators like Walter can play in shaping compelling narratives to attract investment and tourists.
The partnership vision extends beyond promotion, with Prof. Kobby Mensah proposing innovative support mechanisms for Ghanaian content creators. Plans include forming a content creators’ association to standardize rates and professionalize collaboration opportunities, alongside a Shared Donation Fund to reward creators based on measurable impact. Walter’s insights also aligned with GTDC’s regional marketing goals, including initiatives like the Destination Marketing Awards and “Night Troopers,” a program to spotlight Ghana’s nightlife across various regions.
This evolving partnership marks a significant step for GTDC in harnessing digital innovation and creative collaboration to boost Ghana’s tourism sector. With active influencer engagement and strategic initiatives underway, GTDC is positioned to inspire a new wave of interest and investment in Ghana’s cultural and tourism assets.
