PROMOTING MICE TOURISM: GTDC SUPPORTS HOSTING INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF NUTRITION (ICN) IN GHANA

The Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) is making a bold strategic move to elevate Ghana’s global presence by supporting the bid to host the 22nd International Congress of Nutrition (ICN) in 2029, one of the most esteemed global events in nutritional sciences and public health.

As part of its MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism initiative, GTDC fully endorses Ghana's bid to host the ICN and is actively working to facilitate the process.

In this effort, Prof. Kobby Mensah is collaborating with Prof. Kingsley K. Asare Pereko, Vice Dean of the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Cape Coast,

This partnership reflects GTDC’s broader vision not just to bring a major scientific congress to Ghana but to offer a transformative tourism experience that integrates academic distinction with the country's vibrant cultural heritage.

By bidding to host the ICN, Ghana aims to showcase its capacity as a premier MICE destination, highlighting the synergy between knowledge-sharing and cultural immersion. This initiative also aligns with broader tourism strategies, such as promoting Geo-tourism .i.e. Ghana’s position as the country closest to the centre of the world, stunning rock formations, breathtaking waterfalls, and diverse coastal ecosystems and other heritage-based experiences, positioning Ghana as a dynamic and enriching destination for international events.

In championing the bid to host the 22nd International Congress of Nutrition (ICN), the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) is not only positioning Ghana at the forefront of global health and scientific discourse but also reaffirming its status as a rising powerhouse in MICE tourism.

This initiative underscores the country’s unique ability to merge academic excellence with unforgettable cultural and geographical experiences. Should the bid succeed, Ghana will stand as a beacon of innovation, hospitality, and heritage offering the world a destination where knowledge meets culture at the very centre of the earth.
