GTDC Collaborates with Ghana Bureau of Languages

The Ghana Bureau of Languages (GBL) has engaged the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) in discussions aimed at modernising its services through the integration of technology and innovation. This collaboration seeks to enhance language accessibility and preservation while contributing to Ghana’s tourism development.

During the engagement, the Chief Executive Officer of GBL identified key areas requiring technological advancements. Notable among these was the development of animated applications in selected Ghanaian languages, with English subtitles, to aid children's learning. Additionally, he proposed the creation of a translation application to facilitate communication for tourists, enabling them to learn and engage with local languages effectively.

Further proposals included advocating for the inclusion of Ghanaian languages on global platforms such as Google, monetizing voice-recorded language resources, and developing eBooks in indigenous languages. The CEO also emphasized the importance of creating mobile applications specifically designed to teach local languages.

In response, Professor Kobby Mensah, CEO of GTDC, commended these innovative ideas and expressed GTDC’s commitment to fostering collaboration with GBL. He highlighted the relevance of incorporating these initiatives into the Ghana Tourism Marketplace project, aligning with GTDC’s broader objective of commercializing the nation’s cultural assets. To facilitate this partnership, he proposed the establishment of a joint working team from both organizations to oversee the implementation of the proposed initiatives, leveraging GBL’s existing resources and expertise.
